about

"Derail" is an old song that was quite unanimously rejected by the "Indigo" band members at the time. Again, I think it was because the song is so lighthearted and soft. It's based on a song I recorded for my second album (not publicly available for good reason...) titled "Shut up". The song was originally titled "Broken dreams", but with there being a second song on this album that has the word "dreams" in its title, I felt forced to rename it.

This song features a guitar solo by the best guitarist I know personally, Philipp Stüber. When I polished the song for release on this album, I decided that my original solo was much too dilettantish. And since my amp modeler had just broken, I couldn't record something new, so I asked him to to come up with something. And he sure did.

lyrics

- Derail -

Once there was a mill all alone up on a hill,
her millstone was broken but she never stood still.
So after a year and two million turns
she hadn't milled a single corn.

And once there was a clown who would struggle all in vain
for serious acceptance and for recognition.
So after a life of sad, plastic smiles
he committed suicide.

Chorus:
Every day along the way I shudder and recall these tales,
as I see countless trains of life derail.
Self-directed lies, just a vain enterprise
cause this life works by a simple scheme.
In the end, I know, the truth will show
but a broken dream.
