"Odyssey" is a song that definitely sprung from my "Rise Against phase".
It talks about the complexity of life and the futility of trying to control it completely. Far from endorsing fatalism, which I am not very friendly towards, it calls for our sense of adventure, something necessary to cope with the fact that we simply cannot control the course of everything. There are just too many variables.
I'm personally a big fan of the ending, which I feel is pretty powerful stuff.

The cryptic play of chance in a sea
of unknown factors and mystery.
A knight with shield and lance is as mighty as a little baby.

in a pointless attempt to conquer life.

who chase after a treasure they can never find.
